On Doctors
In most emergency cases, doctors do a great job. I also have respect for any doctor who takes time to listen to his patient and who asks appropriate questions to get to the bottom of any health problems occuring. The key here is asking questions, hopefully there are doctors who have asked questions. For example "Hippocrates is the father of western medicine and he said 'let food be thy medicine', and I also know that diet, or food intake, can be the cause of many health problems if it is not sufficient, so why do we therefore not study nutrition more thoroughly?"

and then when they get no answers or inadequate ones, I hope they 1. study nutrition themselves, (I know some great doctors like this btw), and 2. question who determines what doctors learn when studying to become a doctor. This will then hopefully lead them to the Flexner report:
https://www.cancertutor.com/flexner-report/

and to the fact that the oil industry actually controls what they learn. The oil industry is basically the pharmaceutical industry btw, because pharmaceutical drugs are predominantly petroleum based, so this is just a way to sell more oil! The oil billionaire - Rockerfeller family from America, who were partners with I. G. Farben, in Nazi Germany during WWII incidentally, are basically the ones responsible for creating the pharmaceutical industry in the first place.I. G. Farben created the gas, Zyklon B, which the Nazis used in the gas chambers to kill so many Jews btw. It is a fluoride based gas, just like rat poison is made from fluoride. I guess now you know why is says 'consult a doctor' if you swallow toothpaste eh? Anyway, this is why I tell you the subject of nutrition or an adequate, healthy, diet is important.

Nutrition

Diet, in other words, the food you eat, should contain certain elements to meet your body's requirements, to be sufficient. That's what this page is concerned with. To read about health relating to healthy food sources, you can find information about this on the home page. A full page index is in the top right-hand corner of this page. Part of health also includes eating the right amount of the right foods, which is what we will keep this page to the topic of; macro-nutrients to begin with, as this is where food amounts are of importance.

Macro - nutrients

There are 3 macronutrients, which are carbohydrates, proteins and fats, all needed, in adequate amounts and the correct ratio for a healthy diet.

Ketogenic Diets and Health

With the recent attention the Atkins diet and other ketogenic diets, or 'keto', has had recently and over the last ten years or so now, it's important to understand some things here about our body's energy requirements and sources of energy. First of all, our bodies need glucose for energy. Glucose can be taken from 4 different sources:
1. Carbohydrate intake via food.

2. Glycogen stored in your muscles.

3. Glycogen stored in your liver (this is a small amount held on reserve).

4. Gluconeogenesis - breaking down your muscles to convert protein into glucose, or using protein in your diet.

What this, number 4 above, means is that, if you are not eating any carbohydrates or even if you are not eating enough carbohydrates, your body will break down muscle to convert it, as a way of getting the glucose it needs to sustain the brain and nervous system. This means the body will also shut down non-essential bodily functions to conserve energy. So cutting out or limiting carbohydrates is not sustainable or healthy long term, nor is using protein or fat for energy, whether through digesting our own muscles or from our diet. Yes, cutting out carbs it is a way of losing fat, but not long term, in fact continuing this diet long term will make you more fat, as your metabolism will slow down to compensate for the lack of energy from glucose, which your body also needs to digest fat stores btw anyway. Also, ketosis actually releases toxic compounds into your bloodstream, which is another reason a keto/ketogenic diet is not sustainable long term and is bad for your health.

So for people thinking that an Atkins diet or no carb diet is healthy, better think again:

https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1323099111

The brain is known to consume glucose at the rate of 5.6 mg per 100g per minute. [19] During peak development in childhood, metabolic processes in the brain use glucose at a rate equivalent to 66% of the body's resting metabolism and 43% of the body's daily energy requirement.

If you are exercising or have a very physical job, not providing your body with enough energy from diet will further exacerpate this condition and will eventually lead to injury, because your body will not be functioning properly, being in fact in a catabolic state, meaning to break down as opposed to an anabolic state, meaning to build up. So if you have been exercising, weight training etc and have not been able to put on weight, whether you're eating carbohydrates (complex and or simple sugars) or not, or if you've been unable to lose weight, after doing all the "right" things, following diet gurus, trying different diets, doing the recommended exercise, or have even lost muscle mass, and even if you've been suffering from depression (see the articles on my home page). It is most likely your overall dietary intake, in other words lack of the correct amount of macro-nutrients, which is to blame.

A much better way to lose weight and to keep it off, is to make sure you are eating enough of the right nutrients to sustain a healthy metabolism and to either build muscle or increase endurance and or muscle tone, which in turn increases metabolism and your rate of fat burning. The problem is, in the modern day information age, with so many sources on the internet, from Google, to YouTube, to Instagram, and so many self-proclaimed gurus out there, that there is a lot of misleading information, which can be confusing, that it's hard to know what is accurate and who to believe. So it is best to find a reputable source, but how do we do so? Well we should find a source based on scientific research rather than just some one's opinion, whether doctor or otherwise.

Reliability of Sources

So first of all, you may be asking yourself what makes the information I provide you right or better than the information found on youtube or elsewhere on the internet, or in famous books like 'The Atkins Diet'?

Well, I'm not saying I'm a better person than anyone else, so it's nothing to do with me personally, because information is neutral, it is the source of information we must question. The information needs to be backed up by thourough scientific research, the ACSM is one such source. They are also my source. The American College of Sports Medicine, indirectly, through the YMCA personal trainer qualification I have been studying and all of the nutritional studies I was taught on my personal trainer course was based on their research.

They are the ones who have directed me to the ACSM as one reliable source of tried and tested information, not just theories. This college is one which professional athletes around the world rely on. As you can imagine, athletes need reliable and accurate, tried and tested information, to stay at the top of their game when competing, so they don't listen to what Bob down the street says, or what some guy on YouTube trying to sell you the latest fad diet or his latest product or programme says. They go to the scientists, leading the way with cutting edge information in their field. I'm not saying by any chance that I trust all scientists by the way. Some of them have been fed mininal information to keep their field of study within certain boundaries and parameters as sponsored by the meat and dairy industry, or big pharma/cancer charities or big oil corporations, to produce biased research. But when it comes to sport, the results can be seen, copied and replicated, by just looking at the results of athletes. So the point here is, to think about the source of your information and knowledge...
I, btw, had struggled to put on weight for many, many years, until I increased my calorie intake, but then I had sleeping problems and even health problems which rendered me incapacitated for months at a time in some cases. That is until I was educated more on this subject on my personal trainer course. I will add that I was already qualified in nutrition up to level 3 before all of this, so it has taken many years to get to the point of now not only be able to help myself, but to also help others too.

Calorie Intake

To find out if you are eating enough of the right foods and to work out energy requirements (calories) and exactly how much you need to eat of what types of foods, as part of a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining a healthy weight, I have made another page with all the information you need. To access the page, which can be bookmarked and viewed whenever you need it, the charge for this service is £55, which must be paid through PayPal. This will ensure you have the knowledge of exactly how much you should be eating, of what types of foods to reach your current goal, whatever that may be. Whether you want to lose or maintain weight, gain or maintain muscle, or just check you are eating the required amount for your health and will save you many years that not having this knowledge will add to completion of your goals.

Testimonials

Nathan is a very good nutritionist who sorted out my medical problem which for years different GPs could not sort out, nor could the specialists they sent me to. Then, more recently, Nathan helped me get rid of reoccurring boils which kept appearing on my arm. This was very worrying and was another problem the doctors couldn't fix. You should be a doctor Nathan 😊

Norman, 59, Orpington, Kent.

Nathan gave me advice on my diet, which I took and am pleased I did, because I don't have to worry about not being able to play golf anymore, as I haven't suffered from gout now for more than 5 years!
